Mind-mapping

Having worked with assistive technology over the past year, the one piece of software that seems to help the most students with diverse learning or physical disabilities seems to be mind-mapping tools. It is clear to me that helping students to visualise and re-order their thoughts can considerably increase the productivity and clarity in their work.

The three most popular applications are Inspiration, MindView and Mind Genius, however these all come at a price. For a long time I have thought that such software would benefit all students, not just those with a disability, sadly  many students could not afford to purchase them without some kind of specialist grant.

I have found this list of freely available mind-mapping software and would be interested to hear from people who have used any of the nine listed applications.
